Mats Hummels: The national player is the godfather of the Mental Health Award in Young Competitive Sport 2021

The chairwoman of the foundation, Teresa Enke, is pleased about the prominent support of Mats Hummels, who will be the patron of the Robert Enke Foundation’s sponsorship award:

“I think it’s great that Mats Hummels proves once again how important it is to think outside the box. Through his sponsorship he helps to bring the important projects and initiatives for young athletes to the public. I wish Mats and the `team` every success for the upcoming EM!”

Hummels: “As a young person, meeting the challenges of competitive sport, in school or training and in a private environment can quickly become stressful. Mental support is all the more important. The Robert Enke Foundation’s sponsorship award is the right approach to honor precisely these projects. “

After the Robert Enke Foundation announced the “Mental Health Award in Young Competitive Sport” endowed with 17,500 EUR for the first time last year, an award will also be held in 2021. Previous winners included the Olympic base in Berlin and the Flensburg handball academy.

All Olympic support centers (OSP), junior performance centers (NLZ), sports boarding schools and sports clubs that have committed themselves to a project in the context of prevention, diagnosis or treatment of mental health in young athletes can apply until July 31, 2021. Further information can be found in the announcement.

The first three places will be awarded with prize money:

  • 1st place with 10,000 EUR
  • 2nd place with 5,000 EUR
  • 3rd place with 2,500 EUR

The board of the Robert Enke Foundation decides on the award of the prize on the basis of the recommendation of an interdisciplinary examination committee. This includes the following people:

  • Prof. Dr. Petra Garlipp (Department of Sport Psychiatry / Psychotherapy of the DGPPN)
  • Frauke Wilhelm (sports psychologist, including DFB U-18 national team)
  • Markus Miller (goalkeeping coach Karlsruher SC)
